              Welcome to Bracker's Fine Jewelry
Brackers fine Jewelry has been in operation since 1998.  The parent company Southwest Distributors was started in 1974.  Papa Bracker founded southwest Distributors, and traveled extensively throughout the southwestern United States as a trader.  He developed many contacts, and purchase large quantities of Authentic Hand made Native American jewelry. All  jewelry was from the Hopi, Zuni, and Navajo tribes.  Herb loved going out west on buying trips.  He spent the majority of his time traveling around New Mexico.  He found the quality of the jewelry there unmatched. Many of the pieces that are in my webstore are from New Mexico, and surrounding states.  We still maintain contacts in the Southwest, and contiinue to purchase.
Our intent is to keep the sprit of Southwest Distributors within the framework of Bracker's.

Time progressed, and so did  our business.  Gold Chains became the rage, toward the end of the the 70's.  We expanded into this market, by going directly to Italy.  We purchased finest gold and silver, in chains and charms.  I was in the military at the time, and stationed in Italy.  I assisted Papa Bracker in the purchasing of these items.  During this time, I was introduced to the large scale jewelry manufacturing.  I was facinated by the processes involved in fine metal working.  I was left with a strong desire to learn more.  Our business was growing quite nicely in the late 1970's to mid 1980's.  In 1986 the price of gold peaked at over $800 per ounce.  People were buying gold, with no end in site.  Toward the end of the 80's my dad was getting older, and slowing down.
A major change occurred in our company.  My son was born.  Shortly after his birth, I decided that wholesaling was very risky (for a family man).  I changed the format of our business.  We were to become retailers of fine jewelry.  I needed some formal training, and went to work in a jewelry store.  I also attended GIA courses on Jewelry manufacture and repair, gem identification, diamond grading, and more.  The result of all my efforts paid off.  I earned a Graduate Gemologist (GG,GIA) degree.  With degree in hand, I opened the door to my new store in Deerfield, Illinois (1998).  I stayed there for two leases (6years).  In late 2004. after a failure in lease negotiations, I closed my door for the last time.  I decided to bring my experience to the Internet.
